Job summary

Basin Electric Power Cooperative seeks a Student Intern for IT GIS & Compliance at its headquarters in Bismarck, ND. This summer internship (May–Aug 2027) supports GIS and compliance systems, analyzes processes, and provides user assistance within the IT team.

You’ll work with GIS specialists and IT staff to implement improvements, patch systems, and develop training materials, gaining exposure to cooperative operations and best practices.

Qualifications

• Be at least 18 years of age.
• Be enrolled as a full-time student in a two year Information Technology, Computer Science, or related discipline with at least one year completed or recent graduate (within the past 12 months).
• Be enrolled as a full-time student in a four-year Information Technology, Computer Science, or related discipline with at least two years completed or recent graduate (within the past 12 months).
• Maintain a minimum GPA of 2.5.
• Hold a valid driver’s license.
• Transcript required at time of application. If your transcript is not attached at time of application, your application will not be reviewed.

Responsibilities

• Assist in collection, storage, and management of geospatial and compliance data.
• Provide technical support for GIS and Compliance software, troubleshooting issues, and assisting users within IT.
• Collaborate with IT teams, GIS specialists, and compliance officers to support interdisciplinary initiatives.
• Participate in IT-related projects that require geospatial analysis or compliance review.
• Participate in system patching and upgrades of GIS and Compliance applications.
• Assist with training materials and support end-users during rollout of new functionalities or systems.
• Research emerging technologies in GIS and Compliance disciplines.
• Learn and apply GIS and Compliance best practices to optimize system performance and processes.
• Participate in meetings with stakeholders to gather insights and feedback on enhancements.
• Help develop and update training materials for GIS applications and compliance procedures.
