Job summary

Schwartz Farms is seeking a Manager of Gilt Development to lead gilt production management across GDUs, ensuring timely gilt supply to sow farms. Travel across central Minnesota and to South Dakota and Wisconsin locations is required, with oversight of staff, contract growers, and vaccination programs.

You will coordinate gilt movements, optimize gilt health and ensure biosecurity, training staff and managing records, while supporting the Director of Farrowing Production and regional managers.

Qualifications

• Ability to prioritize and plan work activities to use time efficiently.
• Strong understanding of the company's production system, gilt flow & sow farm flow experience.
• Proficiency in the use of Microsoft Office, including Excel spreadsheets.
• Excellent communication, judgment and decision-making skills.
• Strong interpersonal skills and professionalism; able to represent Schwartz Farms in a positive manner.
• Acceptable MVR.
• Previous experience as a sow farm manager or assistant manager, gilt development specialist, breeding department lead (2+ years), or wean-finish supervisor with sow farm experience.

Responsibilities

• Oversee gilt development staff and contract growers to ensure timely gilt supply and biosecurity.
• Coordinate gilt movements with multiplier and destination farms; manage weekly reports.
• Assist in optimizing gilt health, growth, vaccination, and biosecurity protocols across GDUs.
• Maintain staff scheduling, performance reviews, and adherence to company policies.
• Collaborate with veterinary staff and sow units on disease control and vaccination plans.
• Ensure proper recordkeeping of inventory, gilt death loss, and swing of gilt retention data.
• Support management in site expansion and travel to GDUs in MN, SD, WI.
