Responsibilities

  • Understand needs of clients with mental illness and co-occurring substance use disorders.
  • Assist with meal preparation, household chores, shopping, cleaning, laundry, and money management.
  • Provide recovery‑oriented services emphasizing dignity, respect, and inclusion of family and natural supports.
  • Exchange information between shifts via required reporting (electronic and paper).
  • Coordinate transportation to treatment, community and social outings, and essential appointments.
  • Support clients’ mental health with education and training on symptom management; assess for risks.

Gilead Community Services is seeking a caring and recovery-oriented Residential Support Worker to join our multi–disciplinary residential/supported apartment program staff.

About The Position

The Residential Support Worker for Gilead’s Clinton area adult residential/supported apartment program works Thursday, Friday, Saturday 11:00 PM – 7:00 AM, (24 hours per week) providing coaching, mentoring, advocacy, and supportive services in a program serving adults with major mental illness and co‑occurring substance use disorders. The position is an awake overnight shift. The individual in this role also performs or assists with household chores and provides teaching and training in areas such as money management and daily living skills, providing prompts as necessary. Minimum Requirements
  • High school diploma; Associate’s or Bachelor’s degree preferred
  • Must maintain and provide proof of valid driver’s license and automobile insurance in good standing

This is a union position and pays $18.89 per hour. The compensation also includes a $1,500/year stipend added to the base pay over 26 pay periods.

Responsibilities
  • Understanding needs of clients experiencing severe and prolonged mental health and substance abuse disorders through Gilead’s training and education
  • Assisting with meal preparation, household chores, shopping, cleaning, laundry, and money management, in the teaching of daily living skills
  • Providing recovery‑oriented services with an emphasis on dignity, respect, and inclusion of family and other natural supports
  • Exchanging information from one shift to another, through required reporting documentation and communication, both electronic and paper documentation, as needed
  • Assisting with coordination and provision of transportation to treatment, community and social outings, and other essential appointments
  • Working with the treatment team to support clients’ mental health, providing education and training regarding symptom management, and assessing for risks as necessary
  • Acting with compassion, integrity, and ethics.
