Job summary

Orlando Health Digestive Health Institute is seeking a Medical Assistant to perform patient care under the supervision of a physician or APP in an ambulatory setting.

The role requires completing MA training and maintaining BLS certification, with ongoing competency in documentation, patient preparation, and assisting during examinations and procedures. A focus on infection control, safe patient handling, and effective communication is essential.

Qualifications

• High school graduate or equivalent.
• Successful completion of Medical Assistant training from an approved technical school (or verifiable applicable work experience in a patient care setting) required.
• Maintains current American Heart Association BLS Healthcare Provider Certification
• If hired after January 1, 2015, maintains current certification by one of the listed agencies (NHA, AAMA, AMCA, NCCT, NAHP, AMT, ARMA) within 6 months of hire

Responsibilities

• Accountable to the Assistant Nurse Manager, Nursing Operations Manager, or Practice Manager for operational issues.
• Supports and demonstrates effective and professional communication with patients and family members
• Works collaboratively with the administrative and operations staff.
• Gathers patient data through interviews and observation.
• Assist patients and families with preparation for examination.
• Assists the physician or APP during examination and procedures.
• Documents, treatments, procedures, and patient education according to Orlando Health and department specific policies.
• Assists physician or APP by scheduling and providing scheduling information for specialty testing or consultations.
• Processes calls professionally and with clinical judgment.
• Enters medication, lab and imaging orders into the EMR under provider direction.
• Maintains compliance with all Orlando Health policies and infection control standards.
• Maintains regular attendance per policies and federal/state standards.
• Assesses age-specific patient needs and participates in QA & quality indicator activities.
