Job summary

The Veterans Health Administration’s Lebanon VA Medical Center in Lebanon, PA is seeking a Nursing Assistant to join the Geriatrics and Extended Care unit. The role supports licensed staff, delivers direct patient care, and contributes to treatment planning on the hospice unit.

GS-3 to GS-5 level; requires completion of basic education, English proficiency, and the ability to observe, communicate, and assist with daily care.

Qualifications

US citizenship required; non-citizens may be appointed when qualified citizens cannot be recruited per VA policy
One year above high school with NA-related courses
Proficiency in English (spoken and written) per VA standards
GS-3 requires none beyond basic requirements
GS-4 requires 1 year specialized NA or related healthcare experience
Education: 2 years above high school in health-related field or related training
Demonstrate ability to provide a full range of nursing care and communicate effectively with the care team
Must be able to observe patient status and refer deviations promptly
Preferred 1 year long-term care experience

Responsibilities

Provide wide range of patient personal care and support for diagnostic services on the hospice unit
Document care given and patient observations accurately
Assist licensed nursing staff and participate in treatment planning meetings
Operate and monitor basic nursing equipment and tools as directed
Respond to patient changes, ensuring safety and infection control standards
Promote patient independence and dignity through care plans
