Job summary

The U.S. Department of Veterans Affairs Lebanon VAMC is seeking a Nursing Assistant in the Geriatrics and Extended Care unit. You will join a care team to provide skilled nursing support on a hospice-focused unit, under RN/LP N supervision.

Responsibilities include direct patient care, monitoring patient status, documenting observations, and contributing to the care plan. The role requires strong communication, safety practices, and the ability to respond to urgent situations.

Qualifications

• United States Citizenship required.
• English language proficiency as per VA policy.
• Experience requirements vary by grade (GS-3 to GS-5).
• Proficiency in direct patient care and clinical tasks.

Responsibilities

• Assist licensed nursing staff in care of patients/residents receiving preventive, acute, sub-acute, maintenance, and hospice care.
• Perform wide range of patient personal care and support diagnostic services.
• Document care, observations and responses; monitor intake/output.
• Maintain a clean, safe environment and observe safety/infection control procedures.
• Act as preceptor to new Nursing Assistants and participate in treatment planning meetings.
• Initiate basic life support and respond to emergent care situations.
