The Home Base Primary Care (HBPC) Medical Director within the Geriatric and Extended Care Service at the Thomas E. Creek VA Health Care System is responsible for clinical oversight of all HBPC services in Amarillo and satellite programs.

The role includes leadership in HBPC development, collaboration with the Program Director, potential academic activities, and direct patient care within VA policies and systems.

Qualifications

  • Doctor of Podiatric Medicine degree from an approved school.
  • Current full and unrestricted podiatry license in the US (state/DC).
  • Fellowship trained in geriatrics or board certification/eligibility in geriatrics preferred.
  • Experience with geriatric Veteran populations across settings (clinic, nursing home, home care).

Responsibilities

  • Oversee the HBPC team's medical care and clinical standards.
  • Collaborate with the HBPC Program Director to meet program requirements.
  • May hold an academic appointment and participate in training programs.
  • Supervise licensed independent practitioners, residents, fellows, and students in home and clinic settings.
  • Lead HBPC development, administrative leadership, and interface with staff.
  • Participate in accreditation processes, reviews, and site visits.
  • Provide direct patient care, including assessments, diagnoses, and treatments.
  • Coordinate with in-house specialty clinics and community providers.
