Job summary

Freeport‑McMoRan Inc. offers a 2027 Summer Internship in Geotechnical Engineering & Water Resources across site locations in Arizona and surrounding states.

The program targets full‑time students or recent graduates in Civil Engineering, with hands-on experience in geotechnical analysis, data review, and collaboration with site teams in a mining environment. You will support field investigations, data collection, and engineering analyses for TSFs, HLPs, and water dams, while gaining exposure to

Qualifications

• Currently enrolled full-time at an accredited four-year university pursuing a degree in Civil Engineering or closely related field; OR recent graduate within 12 months.

Responsibilities

• Apply principles of soil mechanics, hydrology, hydraulics, and related disciplines to support tailings facilities, heap leach pads, and/or water dams.
• Assist with geotechnical and water management projects related to TSFs, HLPs, and water dams.
• Support geotechnical monitoring programs by collecting and organizing data from instrumentation systems.
• Conduct field investigations including drilling and CPT activities and sampling.
• Create cross sections, profiles, maps, and figures from survey and geological data.
• Support field surveys (bathymetric, drone, QA/QC) and data validation for water balance modeling.
• Prepare technical inspection reports and presentations for engineering decisions.
• Collaborate across site operations, engineering, and environmental teams.
• Assist with data validation and trend reviews; perform ad-hoc special projects.
