Job summary

Freeport-McMoRan seeks a Geotechnical & Water Resource Engineer Intern (Civil) to support soil mechanics, hydrology, hydraulics, and slope stability tasks in a mining setting. You’ll assist field programs, data review, and engineering analyses under supervision.

Ideal candidates are pursuing Civil Engineering, with strong data skills and a drive to learn in office and field environments. The internship runs May–August as a full-time paid position, with locations across Arizona and other NA

Qualifications

• Currently enrolled full-time at an accredited four-year university pursuing a degree in Civil Engineering or closely related field; OR
• Recent graduate (within 12 months) with a degree in Civil Engineering or closely related field.
• Experience with Microsoft Office applications (Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Outlook).
• Strong data analysis and problem-solving skills; detail oriented and accurate.
• Excellent oral and written communication; ability to work under pressure and in teams.
• Willingness to learn and apply engineering concepts in office and field settings.

Responsibilities

• Assist geotechnical and water management projects related to TSFs, HLPs, and water dams.
• Support monitoring programs by collecting and analyzing instrumentation data.
• Participate in field investigations: drilling, CPT, pits, sampling, and related work.
• Generate cross sections, profiles, maps, and figures using survey and geological data.
• Support field data collection and verification for water management and modeling tasks.
• Prepare technical inspection reports and summaries for engineering decisions.
