Job summary

Shannon & Wilson, an employee-owned geotechnical firm, seeks a Soils Lab Manager to oversee laboratory testing and daily lab operations. The role includes supervising lab technicians, processing test data, and ensuring compliance with standards.

Requirements include a BS in Civil Engineering or Geology and 5–9 years of geotechnical lab experience, plus travel to support other offices as needed.

Qualifications

• BS Civil Engineering or Geology degree preferred.
• 5 to 9 years of laboratory experience.
• Experience completing geotechnical soils laboratory tests.
• Knowledge of laboratory equipment, related supplies, computer hardware and software.
• Ability to work collaboratively and communicate effectively.
• Excellent writing, organizational, and communication skills.
• Travel to support other Shannon & Wilson offices as needed.

Responsibilities

• Perform geotechnical soils laboratory testing, including gradations, swell, Atterberg limits, compaction, triaxial strength, consolidation, and ring shear.
• Maintain laboratory accreditation, certifications, and calibrations.
• Use and maintain scientific testing equipment.
• Process test data using computer software.
• Communicate test progress and present test results.
• Ensure that laboratory testing practices comply with applicable standards and industry practices.
• Supervise and review the work of lab technicians.
• Interacting with clients, vendors, and staff at all levels.
