Job summary

Shannon & Wilson is a Seattle-area based geotechnical engineering and environmental consulting firm seeking an Entry-Level Geotechnical Engineer. The role involves performing geotechnical analyses, field explorations, lab testing, and report preparation across diverse projects.

Candidates should hold a BS in Civil Engineering (MS/PhD preferred) and be on track for EIT/PE licensure, with readiness to travel and work on-site at client sites and multiple Shannon & Wilson offices.

Qualifications

• BS in Civil Engineering with MS/PhD in Geotechnical Engineering strongly preferred.
• 0–6 years of geotechnical engineering experience.
• Engineer-in-Training certificate obtained or in process.
• On track to Professional Engineer (PE) license.
• Experience in soil/rock mechanics, slope stability, foundations, tunneling, seismic design.
• Some knowledge of field/construction observation: logging geotechnical explorations, observation of pile driving operations, earthwork observations, instrumentation installation/recording, field reconnaissance, and/or underground work.
• Excellent writing, organizational, and communication skills.
• Willingness and ability to travel to support other Shannon & Wilson offices.

Responsibilities

• Perform geotechnical engineering analyses and calculations.
• Prepare and write engineering and other reports.
• Perform field explorations, collection of samples, geologic reconnaissance, and mapping.
• Perform with construction observation on job sites and prepare summary logs and other documentation.
• Perform geotechnical lab testing and communicate results.
• Interact and communicate with clients, vendors, and staff at all levels.
• Support marketing activities, including preparation of cost proposals.
• Follow Shannon & Wilson's Quality Assurance policy.
• Follow and promote Shannon and Wilson's Health and Safety and Loss Prevention policies.
• Perform other duties as assigned by your supervisor.
