Job summary

NV5, Inc. seeks a Geotechnical Project Manager to lead special inspectors and technicians on bridges, roadways, schools, and commercial projects. You will plan, assign, and review field work, manage budgets, and ensure compliance with IBC and AASHTO/ASTM standards.

The ideal candidate has a BS in civil engineering with materials/geotechnical emphasis, 3–5 years of experience, and at least 2 years of project leadership. Travel and strong report writing are required.

Qualifications

  • BS in civil engineering with emphasis in materials/geotechnical a plus
  • 3-5 years of relevant experience.
  • 2+ years of project and personnel management
  • Ability to work as part of a multi-disciplinary team, think creatively, and problem solve.
  • Reviewing technical specifications and field/laboratory reports.
  • Knowledge of building codes and construction industry standards.
  • Experience with AASHTO and ASTM test methods pertaining to construction materials, including HMA, aggregate, soils, steel, masonry, and concrete.
  • Experience reviewing concrete/asphalt mix designs.
  • Thorough understanding of accreditation policies for all relevant agencies including AMRL, CCRL, IAS, etc.
  • Proficiency in computer applications, including MS Office.
  • Strong verbal and written communication skills

  • Oversees laboratory qualifications.
  • Good driving record, willing to travel

Responsibilities
  • Manages special inspectors and technician staff
  • Manages projects (bridges, roadway, schools, and commercial) and associated geotechnical budgets
  • Prepares and reviews inspection and observation reports submitted to various agencies and other clients.
  • Strong knowledge of soils and foundation characterization and engineering.
  • Plans, assigns, prioritizes, evaluates, and reviews the work of special inspectors and technicians, and support staff for consistency, accuracy, timeliness, conformance to guidelines, and technical merit.
  • Oversees the preparation and submission of timely reports and maintenance of records
  • Develops, implements, and interprets policies, procedures, and programs for special inspection and testing
  • Communicates, interprets, and keeps current on changes in observation and inspection guidelines and regulations. billings versus budget through regular meetings with Principals.
  • Oversight of all Materials testing on soils, asphalt, and concrete.
  • Oversight of all IBC Special Inspections in accordance with IBC Chapter 17
  • Good driving record, willing to travel
  • Oversight of laboratory qualifications
