Job summary

UES is offering a 10-week geotechnical internship designed to bridge classroom knowledge with hands-on field and laboratory testing. You’ll rotate through geotechnical investigations, soils and concrete lab work, and field testing to observe how results influence project success.

Qualifications

• Enrolled in a Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in Civil, Environmental, Geotechnical Engineering or related field.
• Completion of at least two years of coursework preferred.
• Strong engineering fundamentals and interest in applied fieldwork and testing.
• Effective communication and technical writing skills.
• Proficiency in Microsoft Office; familiarity with AutoCAD, GIS or engineering software is a plus.

Responsibilities

• Geotechnical Investigations: Learn boring locations, assist underground utility coordination, observe drilling.
• Soils Laboratory Testing: Conduct Atterberg limits, sieve analyses, proctor, swell tests.
• Concrete Laboratory Testing: Prepare/test specimens, measure cylinder dimensions, determine strength.
• Field Testing – Soils: Perform density tests, observe proof rolling, monitor lime treatments.
• Field Testing – Concrete: Conduct plastic concrete testing, cast cylinders, verify rebar placement.
• Capstone involvement: Contribute to capstone project integrating field and lab work.
