Job summary

UES, Inc. in Houston is seeking a Geotechnical Engineering Intern to bridge classroom learning with field and lab work over a 10-week program. You’ll assist with soil sampling, boring logs, and data collection, and observe how geotechnical principles guide construction projects.

Work alongside experienced engineers, perform field activities, and complete a capstone project presented to department leadership, showcasing technical and analytical skills.

Qualifications

• Currently enrolled in a Bachelor’s or Master’s degree program in Civil, Environmental, Geotechnical Engineering, or a related field.
• Completion of at least two years of coursework preferred.
• Strong engineering foundation with interest in fieldwork and testing.
• Proficiency in Microsoft Office; familiarity with AutoCAD, GIS or engineering software is a plus.
• Ability to work collaboratively in a team.
• Must hold a valid driver’s license and reliable transportation.

Responsibilities

• Assist with soil classifications and boring log creation using AutoCAD.
• Collect field samples with a hand auger and update boring logs.
• Organize, label, and log material samples in accordance with quality assurance standards.
• Maintain accurate and detailed field and lab reports.
• Calibrate and clean testing equipment as required.
• Adhere to company and safety protocols at all times.
• Other duties may be assigned.
• Capstone Project: complete a capstone project presenting field and lab results to department leadership.
