Job summary

UES, Inc. in Round Rock, Texas, invites you to a 10-week geotechnical and construction materials testing internship designed to bridge classroom knowledge with hands-on field and lab work.

During rotations in field testing, soils and concrete laboratory analysis, and geotechnical investigations, you’ll observe, assist, and learn how testing informs project decisions. You’ll complete a capstone project, interact with engineering teams, and graduate with practical skills.

Qualifications

• Currently enrolled in a Bachelor's or Master's degree in civil/environmental/geotechnical engineering.
• Completion of at least two years of coursework preferred.
• Strong engineering fundamentals with interest in fieldwork and testing.
• Proficiency in Microsoft Office; familiarity with AutoCAD, GIS, or engineering software is a plus.
• Ability to work collaboratively in a team and communicate effectively.
• Must hold a valid driver’s license and have reliable transportation.

Responsibilities

• Geotechnical Investigations: learn boring locations, assist with underground utility coordination, observe drilling.
• Soils Laboratory Testing: Atterberg limits, sieve analyses, proctor, swell tests.
• Concrete Laboratory Testing: prepare tests, measure cylinders, determine strength.
• Field Testing – Soils: density tests, observe proof rolling, monitor lime treatments.
• Field Testing – Concrete: plastic testing, cast cylinders, verify rebar placement.
