Job summary

Shannon & Wilson is a Seattle-based engineering firm seeking a senior Geotechnical Instrumentation Engineer with 7–14 years of experience to lead projects and mentor staff.

You will design, install, and evaluate geotechnical instrumentation, manage data, and produce technical reports while collaborating with clients and vendors. Travel to field sites is required; PE license within 12 months is expected.

Qualifications

  • BS, MS or PhD in Civil, Geotechnical, or Geological Engineering.
  • 7–14 years of progressive experience with geotechnical instrumentation.
  • Ability to obtain a Professional Engineering (PE) license in the state within 12 months.
  • Mentoring and supervisory experience.
  • Excellent writing, organizational, and communication skills.
  • Willingness and ability to travel (up to several weeks at a time).
  • Valid driver's license and insurable driving record.
  • Independent work capability with minimal supervision.
  • Willingness to travel to field sites locally and out of state.

Responsibilities

  • Manage effort on multiple projects at the same time.
  • Work independently, as well as part of a team.
  • Provide geotechnical instrumentation design, procurement, installation, and data evaluation to in-house and outside clients.
  • Manage and supply data collected from geotechnical instrumentation projects in meaningful formats.
  • Maintain geotechnical instrumentation equipment and calibrations.
  • Travel to assist, oversee, or perform installation of geotechnical instrument monitoring systems.
  • Prepare and write technical instrumentation engineering reports and review others' reports and calculations.
  • Interact with clients, vendors, and staff at all levels.
  • Lead, mentor, supervise engineers and other employees.
  • Assist other offices with design, installation, and monitoring of instrumentation projects.
  • Train junior colleagues and support business development and marketing activities.
