About the Role

Our client is looking for a skilled Geotechnical Engineer to join their mining operations team based in George . This role is crucial for ensuring the stability and safety of mine infrastructure, including open pits and underground workings. You will conduct detailed site investigations, analyze geological data, and provide expert recommendations to mitigate risks associated with slope stability, ground support, and seismic activity. The successful candidate will work collaboratively with mine planners, geologists, and operations personnel to integrate geotechnical considerations into mine design and operational planning.

Key Responsibilities
  • Perform geotechnical site investigations, including drilling, logging, and in-situ testing.
  • Analyze geological and geotechnical data to assess slope stability, ground conditions, and seismic hazards.
  • Develop and recommend designs for mine excavations, waste rock dumps, and tailings storage facilities.
  • Implement and monitor ground support systems and provide guidance on excavation sequencing.
  • Prepare detailed geotechnical reports, presentations, and risk assessments for mine management.
  • Collaborate with mine planning and operations teams to ensure safe and efficient mine development and production.
Requirements
  • Master's degree in Geotechnical Engineering, Geological Engineering, or a related discipline.
  • At least 5 years of relevant experience in the mining industry.
  • Proficiency in geotechnical software for slope stability and numerical modeling (e.g., Rocscience suite, FLAC).
  • Experience with field investigations, laboratory testing, and data interpretation.
  • Knowledge of rock mechanics, soil mechanics, and hydrogeology.
  • Strong analytical, problem-solving, and technical writing skills.
