Job summary

Bechtel seeks a Geotechnical Engineer to conduct field investigations and plan specifications for geotechnical design. You will oversee field and lab activities, conduct studies, and interpret regulations.

You will support new business efforts, develop cost estimates, and ensure geotechnical aspects meet project requirements. The role involves evaluating subsurface conditions, leading analyses, and coordinating with civil and structural teams.

Qualifications

• Requires an MS degree in Geotechnical Engineering from an accredited university and minimum 5 years of relevant experience, or a Ph.D. in Geotechnical Engineering and minimum 3 years of relevant experience.
• Knowledge of geotechnical engineering design principles, site and subsurface investigation, and foundation analysis.
• Professional Engineer registration is required.

Responsibilities

• Evaluates, selects, and applies standard geotechnical engineering methods preparing specifications for subsurface investigations for new and existing facilities
• Performs and may lead geotechnical analyses such as stability of soil and rock slopes, rock excavation and slope protection, bearing capacity and settlement of shallow foundations, lateral earth pressures, and axial and lateral pile capacities
• Prepares geotechnical engineering reports and presents results to project team
• Coordinates civil or structural designs with geotechnical assessments
• Communicates geotechnical issues with the project team during the engineering design stage
• During construction, oversees earthwork operations, pile installation, load testing, subgrade inspection, and ground improvement monitoring
• Oversees outside geotechnical consultants hired by Bechtel or the client
