Job summary

LiRo-Hill in Pearl River, NY is seeking a Geotechnical Engineer to support the NYS Office of General Services (OGS) Design & Construction, Environmental Group. Responsibilities include reviews, dam-related design support, field explorations, and coordination with internal and consultant teams.

Candidates should hold a NY PE or be eligible to obtain licensure within 6 months, have a BS in civil engineering or geology, and 5+ years in geotechnical engineering.

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s degree in civil engineering, geology, or related field.
• Master’s degree in civil engineering is a plus.
• Current Professional Engineering License in New York within 6 months.
• Dam engineering experience is a plus.
• Minimum of 5 years of geotechnical engineering experience.
• Experience preparing and reviewing contract drawings and technical specifications.
• Proficient in Microsoft Outlook, Word, and Excel.
• AutoCAD proficiency is a plus.
• Geotechnical software such as GEOSTUDIO, Rocslide, and LPILE familiarity.

Responsibilities

• Provide subject matter expert technical review for consultant projects, including reports, contract plans and specifications.
• Review consultant-led design work on dam projects, including safety inspections and hazard classification assessments.
• Develop construction-level documents for geotechnical and dam projects.
• Coordinate and oversee geotechnical field exploration programs.
• Review subsurface exploration logs and laboratory geotechnical testing results.
• Prepare design calculations for foundations, slabs-on-grade, walls, slope stability, and pavements.
• Develop memos and reports with design and construction recommendations.
• Perform dam safety inspections and site visits as needed.
• Provide technical assistance to other divisions within OGS D&C.
• Travel as required.
