Job summary

Schnabel, Inc. seeks a Project Geotechnical/Dam Engineer for our Albany area office (Clifton Park) to join a strong multi-disciplinary team focused on dams, hydraulic structures, and related facilities.

Qualifications

• ABET-accredited Civil Engineering degree.
• New York PE licensure or eligibility with ability to obtain NY license within 6 months.
• 4+ years geotechnical design and/or geotechnical construction-oriented consulting experience.
• Willingness and ability to perform field work and travel.
• High proficiency in writing and reviewing reports in English.

Responsibilities

• Analyze and design components related to dams and water infrastructure.
• Slope stability and seepage analyses.
• Embankment dam filter compatibility analyses and evaluation of internal erosion.
• Evaluate settlement, liquefaction, and seismic performance of embankment dams.
• Prepare technical reports, plans, and specifications.
• Learn and implement risk-informed approaches for evaluating dams and potential failure modes.
• Assist with risk assessments for dams and hydraulic structures.
• Develop engineering recommendations and write technical reports.
• Scope, observe and direct geotechnical explorations and laboratory testing programs.
• Perform inspections of dams and hydraulic structures and collect data and measurements in the field.
• Perform construction observation with opportunities for field assignments.
• Assist project managers with project coordination and administrative tasks and assume project management responsibilities.
• Work as a team member within the Albany office and across Schnabel offices.
