Job summary

Bunnell-Lammons Engineering (BLE) in Charlotte, NC, seeks a Department Manager to lead BLE’s Geotechnical Services in the Charlotte area. You will oversee technical performance, staffing, and client service while partnering with the Branch Manager to grow the practice.

This senior role requires PE licensure, 8+ years in geotechnical engineering, and a track record of staff leadership, project delivery, and client relationship development within BLE’s employee-owned culture.

Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree in Civil Engineering is required.
• PE license is required.
• Typically 8+ years in geotechnical or geostructural engineering consulting with project management and staff leadership.
• Experience in subsurface exploration, geotechnical analysis, design recommendations, construction support, and risk management.

Responsibilities

• Maintain standards, ethics, and regulatory compliance for the department.
• Establish priorities, workflows, and best practices for quality and profitability.
• Oversee geotechnical projects from scoping to construction support with staffing and budget control.
• Plan and coordinate subsurface exploration programs (drilling, sampling, lab tests, field personnel).
• Lead QA/QC, review proposals and deliverables as final reviewer where allowed.
• Provide technical leadership during design and construction and support client communication.
