Job summary

NV5, Inc. is seeking an Engineering Manager in Bakersfield, CA to lead geotechnical, civil, and materials engineering projects. The role combines design oversight, construction inspection, and testing with a focus on school and public infrastructure programs.

The successful candidate will manage multidisciplinary teams, ensure technical excellence, and coordinate with clients to meet budgets and schedules. California PE licensure and DSA/Caltrans experience are highly valued.

Qualifications

• Registered Professional Civil Engineer in California.
• Minimum 5 years' experience in testing and inspection of construction materials.
• Minimum 2 years' experience in special inspections or supervision of special inspection services; Caltrans/DSA experience preferred.
• Ability to lead a multi-disciplinary team and manage client expectations.
• Strong knowledge of building codes and standards (DSA, Caltrans).
• Experience with Caltrans, AASHTO, ASTM test methods for construction materials.
• Proficiency in MS Office and related software.
• Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
• Geotechnical background is a plus.

Responsibilities

• Lead Engineering Manager for laboratory testing and special inspection services on DSA/Caltrans and local projects.
• Plan, assign, evaluate, and review work of inspectors, technicians, and staff.
• Review field and laboratory reports and ensure accuracy.
• Review plans and specifications for compliance and feasibility.
• Manage projects from inception through completion with client satisfaction.
• Ensure projects meet technical standards, budget, and schedule.
• With Operations, recruit, train, mentor, and develop department staff.
• Conduct annual performance reviews and monitor progress toward goals.
• Develop technical and cost proposals and deliverables for clients.
• Support business development and growth in new markets.
• Help establish policies and procedures and pursue new markets in professional services.
• Develop risk awareness and implement safety improvements across the team.
• Lead safety efforts and model safe work practices.
