Job summary

Alliance of Hazardous Materials Professionals in Raleigh, NC seeks a Geotechnical Group Manager to lead a growing geotechnical, testing, and inspections team. You will own the P&L, drive profitability, and build key client relationships across eastern North Carolina.

The role requires a PE license, 10+ years in geotechnical fields, and proven leadership. You will negotiate contracts, mentor staff, and collaborate with other disciplines to ensure on-time, high-quality project delivery.

Qualifications

• Bachelor's or master's degree in civil engineering or a related field.
• Active PE (NC reciprocity within six months if licensed elsewhere).
• 10+ years in geotechnical engineering, materials testing, and/or special inspections.
• Proven leadership and people management experience.
• Working knowledge of risk management and loss prevention.
• Strong written and verbal communication skills.
• Ability to pass a drug screen, background check, and motor vehicle record review.

Responsibilities

• Lead and grow the geotechnical group, including technicians, inspectors and support staff.
• Own the P&L, invoicing, and revenue recognition for the department.
• Set and drive profitability and growth targets for the unit.
• Build client relationships across Raleigh and eastern NC, and bring in new business through networking and marketing.
• Review contracts and join negotiations with counsel when needed.
• Prepare and review proposals and technical reports.
• Step in as a technical leader on projects.
• Train and mentor staff and technicians.
• Partner with other disciplines in Raleigh to keep projects on schedule and quality high.
