Job summary

Ahtna Inc is seeking a dynamic Geologist to perform field assessments, sampling, and reporting for contaminated site characterization, monitoring, and remediation in Alaska. The role combines fieldwork with office tasks, requiring travel and strong regulatory knowledge.

Multiple levels (II–Senior) with growth potential. Essential duties include designing plans, overseeing groundwater work, collecting environmental data, and preparing technical documents.

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s Degree in Geology or geological sciences required.
• US Citizenship required.
• Ability to pass background checks by Federal Agencies to obtain security access badges.
• Valid Driver’s License with a clean driving record.
• Strong knowledge of Microsoft Office Suite (Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Outlook, and SharePoint Online).
• Adept at explaining technical aspects of fieldwork to internal and external clients verbally and in writing.

Responsibilities

• Conduct contaminated site characterization, monitoring, and remediation field assessments safely and per work plans.
• Travel by aircraft, motor vehicles, ATVs, and watercraft for fieldwork and meetings.
• Field screening and sampling for contaminants in various media following SOPs and regulations.
• Oversee installation and development of borings and monitoring/extraction wells.
• Classify soils using USCS and interpret geophysical logs.
• Document field operations with notes, forms, photos, and reports; communicate with project managers daily.
• Ensure safety and compliance with project specifications; inspect work progress and sites.
• Schedule and oversee subcontractors; assist or lead proposal and planning document preparation.
