Job summary

Ahtna seeks a dynamic environmental science professional for a mix of field and office work in Alaska. The role involves sampling groundwater, soil, sediment, surface water, and air for contaminants, data gathering, and preparing work plans and field reports.

Candidates should be prepared for travel by air and vehicle, and to lead or assist with proposals and documentation. A strong background in environmental laws is preferred for higher level grades.

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s Degree in Physical/Environmental Sciences or related field.
• US Citizenship.
• Ability to pass background checks by federal agencies to obtain security access badges.
• Valid Driver’s License with a clean driving record.
• Strong knowledge of Microsoft Office Suite (Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Outlook, SharePoint).
• Adept at explaining technical aspects of fieldwork to clients verbally and in writing.

Responsibilities

• Conduct contaminated site characterization, monitoring, and remediation field assessments safely and per work plans.
• Travel by aircraft, vehicles, ATVs, or watercraft for fieldwork and meetings.
• Field screening and sampling for contaminants in various media according to SOPs and regulations.
• Document field operations with notes, photos, and tablets; communicate with project managers daily.
• Inspect work progress and equipment to ensure safety and adherence to specifications.
• Schedule and oversee subcontractors.
• Assist or lead preparation of proposals, planning documents, and reports.
• Author and review technical documents such as work plans and reports.
