Job summary

Ahtna Inc. seeks a geologist to support contaminated site characterization, monitoring, and remediation projects in Alaska.

The role blends field assignments with office planning and reporting, requiring travel and a Monday–Friday schedule. You will conduct sampling of groundwater, soil, sediment, surface water, and air, document data, supervise drilling operations, classify soils, and prepare work plans and technical reports.

Qualifications

Bachelor’s degree in geology or geological sciences is required.
Ability to pass background checks by various Federal Agencies (e.g., DoD, DHS, FAA, etc.) to obtain security access badges.
Valid Driver’s License with a clean driving record is required to operate a company vehicle.
Strong knowledge of Microsoft Office Suite, including Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Outlook, and SharePoint Online.
Adept at explaining technical aspects of fieldwork to internal and external clients verbally and in writing.

Responsibilities

Conduct contaminated site characterization, monitoring, and remediation field assessments safely and per work plans.
Travel by air, vehicle, or boat for fieldwork, site visits, or meetings.
Field screening and sampling for contaminants in multiple media per SOPs and regulations.
Oversee installation and development of borings and monitoring wells using various drilling methods.
Document field operations with written notes and forms and communicate with project managers.
