Job summary

Johnson & Johnson’s Translational Systems Toxicology team in La Jolla, CA, is seeking a summer intern to develop and maintain automated update workflows for a genomics-pharmacology database.

You will transform genomic and pharmacological data into structured, analysis-ready datasets, and build reproducible pipelines. You’ll partner with scientists and engineers to accelerate decisions in preclinical safety assessment.

Qualifications

• Currently enrolled in a Master's or PhD program in a quantitative field.
• Strong programming foundation (Linux, Python or R) and reproducible code.
• Working knowledge of biology/genomics and toxicology concepts.
• SQL and relational databases knowledge.
• Experience with workflow/orchestration tools (Airflow, Prefect, GitHub Actions).
• Experience with cloud platforms and Docker.

Responsibilities

• Develop and maintain automated update workflows for the genomics-pharmacology database.
• Ingest and harmonize preclinical and clinical datasets; clean and annotate data.
• Build reproducible analysis scripts and dashboards for exploration and reporting.
• Document data models, pipelines, and SOPs for hand-off.
• Collaborate with safety scientists, bioinformaticians, and data engineers to prioritize tasks.
• Follow data security, privacy, and compliance practices.
