Job summary

Johnson & Johnson’s Translational Systems Toxicology team is offering a summer internship to develop and maintain automated update workflows for a genomics-pharmacology database, transforming sources into ready-to-use datasets and building reproducible pipelines that keep the database current.

You will collaborate with scientists and engineers across functions to accelerate decisions in preclinical safety assessment and gain hands-on experience in data engineering, scripting, and cloud-based

Qualifications

• Currently enrolled in a Master’s or PhD program in a quantitative field.
• Strong foundation in programming (Linux, Python or R) and reproducible code.
• Working knowledge of SQL and relational databases.
• Familiarity with data cleaning, transformation, and basic EDA.
• Experience with workflow/orchestration tools (Airflow, Prefect, GitHub Actions).
• Experience with cloud platforms (AWS, Azure, Domino or GCP) and containerization (Docker).
• Experience with NLP and AI tools.

Responsibilities

• Development and maintenance of automated database update workflows (scheduling, monitoring, alerts).
• Support and improve database integration pipelines to ingest and harmonize datasets (genomics, pharmacology, toxicology, chemistry/assay results).
• Build and maintain reproducible analysis scripts and dashboards for exploratory analysis and reporting.
• Document data models, pipelines, SOPs, and work instructions for hand-off and reuse.
• Collaborate with safety scientists, bioinformaticians, and data engineers to refine requirements.
• Follow data security and privacy practices for handling sensitive research data.
