Johnson & Johnson's Janssen Research & Development offers a summer internship in Translational Systems Toxicology. You will help build automated update workflows for a genomics–pharmacology database and convert diverse data sources into analysis-ready datasets.

You will collaborate with scientists and engineers to accelerate preclinical safety decisions and produce reproducible pipelines. This program welcomes Master’s or PhD students in quantitative disciplines with software and cloud toolkit

Competenze

  • Currently enrolled in a Master’s, or PhD program in a quantitative field.
  • Strong foundation in programming (Python or R) and Linux.
  • Working knowledge of SQL and relational databases.
  • Experience with workflow/orchestration tools (Airflow, Prefect, GitHub Actions).
  • Experience with cloud platforms (AWS, Azure, Domino or GCP) and containerization (Docker).
  • Experience with NLP and AI tools.

Mansioni

Join the Translational Systems Toxicology team as a summer intern and drive the development and maintenance of automated update workflows for our genomics-pharmacology database, a critical resource for advancing our pipeline. Transform genomic and pharmacological data sources into structured, analysis-ready datasets, and build reliable, reproducible pipelines that keep the database current. Responsibilities
  • Development and maintenance of automated database update workflows (scheduling, monitoring, alerts) to ensure timely, reproducible refreshes for our existing database.
  • Support and improve existing database integration pipelines to ingest and harmonize preclinical and clinical datasets (genomics, pharmacology, toxicology, chemistry/assay results, etc.), including data cleaning, harmonization, verification, and annotation.
  • Build and maintain reproducible analysis scripts and dashboards to support exploratory analysis and reporting.
  • Document data models, pipelines, SOPs, and work instructions to enable hand‑off and reuse.
  • Collaborate closely with safety scientists, bioinformaticians, and data engineers to refine requirements and prioritize tasks.
  • Follow data security, privacy, and compliance practices for handling sensitive research data.
Qualifications
  • Currently enrolled in a Master’s, or PhD program in Data Science, Bioinformatics, Biostatistics, Computational Biology, Computer Science, Engineering, or a related quantitative discipline.
  • Strong foundation in programming (Linux, Python or R) and experience writing reproducible code.
  • Working knowledge of biological, genomics and toxicology concepts.
  • Working knowledge of SQL and relational databases.
  • Familiarity with data cleaning, transformation, and basic exploratory data analysis.
  • Experience with workflow/orchestration tools (Airflow, Prefect, GitHub Actions, or similar).
  • Experience with cloud platforms (AWS, Azure, Domino or GCP) and containerization (Docker).
  • Prior exposure to front end design scripts (Javascript, Rshiny or similar)
  • Experience with version control (git) and code review practices.
  • Good written and verbal communication skills; ability to explain technical work to scientific and non-technical audiences.
  • Ability to work collaboratively in a cross-functional team and manage tasks independently.
  • Candidates must have authorization to work in the US.
  • Experience with Natural language processing and AI tools.

Salary

The anticipated base pay range for this position is : $23.50/hr to $52.50/hr. The expected pay range for this position is between $23.50 per hour and $52.50 per hour but will be based on candidate's program year, discipline, degree and/or experience.

  • Co-Ops/Interns are eligible to participate in Company sponsored employee medical benefits in accordance with the terms of the plan.
  • Co-Ops and Interns are eligible for the following sick time benefits: up to 40 hours per calendar year; for employees who reside in the State of Washington, up to 56 hours per calendar year.
  • Co-Ops and Interns are eligible to participate in the Company’s consolidated retirement plan (pension).
