Job summary

Saint Peter’s Health Care System is seeking a Patient Navigator in the Dept of Genetic-Genomic Med to triage inquiries, assist with pre-authorizations, and coordinate follow-up appointments. The role requires attention to detail, strong organizational and communication skills, and familiarity with medical terminology.

Two years of medical office experience is preferred and bilingual (Spanish) skills are strongly valued.

Qualifications

• Minimum of two (2) years of medical office experience, patient navigator experience is strongly preferred.
• Bi-lingual (fluent in Spanish) strongly preferred.
• Excellent organizational, planning, interpersonal and time management skills.
• Requires attention to detail and data entry accuracy for scheduling and basic office tasks.
• Knowledge of medical terminology.
• Knowledge of Microsoft Office (Outlook, Excel and Word).

Responsibilities

• Triage phone/email inquiries; assist with pre-authorizations; maintain communication with labs and insurances; coordinate and schedule follow-up appointments.
• Confirm all pertinent information has been received prior to scheduled appointments and prepare patient charts and test requisitions; follow through on test send-outs and ordering.
• Track all testing, studies and consultations; organize test results and notify patients/providers of negative results; coordinate send-out of clinic summaries and reports.
• Act as a liaison to facilitate communication with internal and external providers.
• Connect patients with Resource Services and/or other hospital resources as needed.
• Perform other duties as assigned (e.g. maintain clinical database).
