Job summary

University of Pennsylvania is seeking a Clinical Molecular Technologist to work in the Perelman School of Medicine, Philadelphia. The role focuses on DNA isolation, mutation detection in disease genes, and real-time Q-PCR, with emphasis on NGS library prep and sequence analysis.

The candidate will perform Sanger and NextGen sequencing, variant annotation, and quality control while contributing to experimental design and department meetings.

Qualifications

• Bachelor of Science and 1 to 3 years of experience or equivalent combination of education and experience is required.
• Experience with next-generation sequencing data analysis preferred.

Responsibilities

• Carry out clinical procedures associated with genetic diagnosis of human diseases, including Sanger and NextGen sequencing, copy number determination, Methylation analysis by RT-PCR
• Perform analysis of results of diagnostic analyses including variant annotation, RT-PCR and Illumina iSCAN data analysis
• Bioinformatic analysis skills desirable
• Routine DNA isolation, quantitation and Quality Control assays
• Maintain equipment, arrange service calls and monitor service contacts. Monitor supplies and order as necessary; monitor expenses.
• Assist in experimental design & project development
• Participate in lab meetings, journal club; attend relevant seminars and conferences
• Other duties as assigned
