Job summary

Albany Med Health System is seeking a Genetic Counselor Assistant to support the Division of Medical Genetics and Genomics in delivering high-quality genetic services at Bernard and Millie Duker Children’s Hospital Albany Medical Health System. You will assist genetic counselors, physicians, and nursing staff, manage patient records, and help coordinate genetic testing and insurance authorizations.

Qualifications

• Associate degree in biology, chemistry, psychology or related field required.
• Bachelor's degree preferred.
• 1-3 years in an ambulatory medical setting preferred.

Responsibilities

• Prepare patient cases and assist with collection of family and medical histories and records before clinic appointments.
• Ensure medical records and lab reports are accessible to clinical staff before appointments.
• Prepare documentation for genetic counseling and evaluation.
• Construct/update pedigrees prior to clinic appointments.
• Assist with genetic testing paperwork and pre-authorizations.
• Track genetic test results and communicate status to patients when needed.
• Disclose results to patients under supervision and document in EMR.
• Perform clerical duties and support educational/administrative projects.
• Coordinate insurance coverage and prior authorizations for genetic testing.
• Collaborate with staff to communicate results and update medical records.

Education

Associate's Degree in biology, chemistry, psychology or related field of study
