Job summary

Mount Sinai’s Reproductive Genetic Counseling Program is seeking a Genetic Counseling Assistant to support genetic counseling services and coordination of care for diverse patients. The role reports to the clinical manager and works with counselors and staff onsite across pre- and post-appointment activities.

Responsibilities include collecting and organizing information, triaging appointments, coordinating follow-up, preparing test requisitions, and assisting with documentation and telehealth.

Qualifications

• Associate degree, Bachelor’s preferred.
• 1-2 years of related administrative or program support experience.
• Interpersonal skills to effectively interact with patients and referring physicians.

Responsibilities

• Prior to Genetic Counseling appointments: triage and prepare charts; obtain documents; data entry of health history questionnaires; assist with pre-authorization and lab communications; support telehealth use.
• Post-Genetic Counseling appointments: coordinate and track consents; schedule lab/disclosure visits; prepare test requisitions; assist with documentation for test processing; liaise with labs and insurance for pre-authorization; provide clinical notes and insurance information to patients.
• Patient follow-up: organize test results; schedule disclosure visits; assist with communicating results; forward results to medical records or referring provider.
• Additional support: answer calls/emails; triage, scan and send information; cover for administrative staff; improve workflow for intake, ordering, testing, and return of results.
• Database entry: input and maintain clinical/research data in databases.
