Job summary

Xcel Energy is offering an internship to support planning of new generation projects in its service territories. You will work with the Generation Development Team on defining the future of power at Xcel Energy.

This internship runs for a May 24, 2027 start date, with potential extension based on performance and business needs. The position is hybrid, requiring in-person commuting to the designated site most of the time.

Qualifications

  • Current student, Sophomore or higher (as of Fall 2027).
  • Enrolled in ABET accredited college or university and pursuing a degree in any Engineering or Technical field.
  • Minor travel opportunities to other Xcel Energy sites and existing generating facilities.
  • Able to work full-time during the summer (up to 40 hours a week) / part time during the school year (up to 20 hours a week) and commuting to the designated work location in-person, per our hybrid work policy.

  • Project Management activities including: Assist in siting of new generation locations.
  • Project Management activities including: Support equipment analysis and selection.
  • Project Management activities including: Perform financial estimating and cost analysis.
  • Project Management activities including: Develop risk management strategies.
  • Project Management activities including: Support regulatory filings and submittals.
  • Project Management activities including: Help develop new processes and tools for project management.

Seeking interns to support planning of new construction projects for electrical generating assets in Xcel Energy service territories. Work with the Generation Development Team on defining the future of power at Xcel Energy.

This position is for a May 24, 2027 start date. This position may have the possibility to extend beyond the internship’s initial term based on the candidate’s successful performance and Xcel Energy’s business needs.

Minimum Requirements
  • Current student, Sophomore or higher (as of Fall 2027)
  • Enrolled in an ABET accredited college or university and pursuing a degree in any Engineering or Technical field

Preferred Qualifications
  • Interest in generating technologies, including solar, wind, battery storage, and combustion turbines.
  • Interest in project management processes and techniques.
  • Interest in emerging energy technologies and new advances in electrical generation and storage.

Compensation and Benefits

The anticipated starting base pay for this position is: $21.20 to $30.90 per hour.
