Job summary

Xcel Energy is seeking candidates to support our Gas Utility, specifically, within one of our Engineering departments. The paid internship provides an opportunity to showcase your abilities in one of our Operations support groups. The program provides practical work experience to develop your existing skillset, present to senior leadership, and collaborate with key internal stakeholders. Each intern will be relied upon to play a role in achieving department objectives and goals. The program will allow you to apply what you’ve learned in school and further enhance your knowledge through hands on training and provide opportunities to network and learn with other interns across the Gas Utility.

Key Responsibilities
  • Project activities and responsibilities could include assisting with project management, pipeline engineering, data cleanup, federal code verification, documentation preparation, and other activities as required.
  • Work with the Engineering staff to support the Transmission Control Center.
  • Work as an entry level engineering analyst doing tasks that support the tools, programs, and database s used to perform various operational tasks such as outage coordination, power flow studies, power system monitoring, and assist with operator training.

This position is for a May 24, 2027 start date. This position may have the possibility to extend beyond the internship’s initial term based on the candidate’s successful performance and Xcel Energy’s business needs.

Minimum Requirements
  • Current student, Junior or higher
  • Enrolled in an ABET accredited college or university and pursuing a degree in Engineering, Gas Project Management
  • Able to work full-time during the summer (up to 40 hours a week)/ part time during the school year (up to 20 hours a week) and commuting to the designated work location in-person, per our hybrid work policy.

Salary & Benefits

Non-Bargaining The anticipated starting base pay for this position is: $23.10 to $24.60 per hour
