Job summary

Xcel Energy in Minnesota is offering an engineering internship to support planning of new generation projects. You will work with the Generation Development Team to help shape the future of power at Xcel Energy, gaining hands-on experience in siting, analysis, and project management.

This internship starts May 24, 2027 and offers hybrid work arrangements; you will work full-time during summer and part-time during the school year, with travel to multiple sites as needed.

Qualifications

• Current student, Sophomore or higher (as of Fall 2027).
• Enrolled in an ABET accredited college or university pursuing a degree in any Engineering or Technical field.
• Minor travel opportunities to other Xcel Energy sites and existing generating facilities.
• Able to work full-time during the summer (up to 40 hours a week) and part-time during the school year (up to 20 hours a week) and commute to the designated work location in-person, per hybrid policy.

Responsibilities

• Assist in siting of new generation locations.
• Support equipment analysis and selection.
• Perform financial estimating and cost analysis.
• Develop risk management strategies.
• Support regulatory filings and submittals.
• Help develop new processes and tools for project management.

Seeking interns to support planning of new construction projects for electrical generating assets in Xcel Energy service territories. Work with the Generation Development Team on defining the future of power at Xcel Energy.

Typical intern responsibilities may include but are not limited to:

This position is for a May 24, 2027 start date. This position may have the possibility to extend beyond the internship’s initial term based on the candidate’s successful performance and Xcel Energy’s business needs.

Minimum Requirements:
