Job summary

The North Carolina Office of State Human Resources, Temporary Solutions division, seeks a General Utility Worker (S) in Wilson. This temporary position supports grounds upkeep at 4761 Ward Blvd, Wilson County, with an hourly rate of $18.00.

Key duties include mowing with push and riding mowers, operating gas-powered tools, tending plant beds, debris removal, seasonal raking and snow support, storm water maintenance, trash pickup, and basic equipment repairs.

Qualifications

  • This is a temporary position with no leave or retirement benefits.
  • Temporary employees may be eligible for health insurance under HDHP after meeting eligibility criteria.

Responsibilities

  • Mowing grass with push and riding mowers.
  • Use gasoline powered equipment (string trimmers, edgers, blowers, tractors, electric carts).
  • Maintain plant beds, set out flowers, trees and bushes.
  • Remove limbs and debris daily.
  • Rake and mulch leaves; assist in snow removal as needed.
  • Maintain storm water basins to prevent flooding.
  • Pickup trash and empty exterior trash cans daily.
  • Assist in maintaining, cleaning and repairing grounds equipment and vehicles.
  • Assist in vehicle inspections and transports for service; fueling as needed.
  • Perform other duties as assigned by supervisor.

This temporary position is located at 4761 Ward Blvd., Wilson - Wilson County, with Department of Health & Human Services.

Job Order Hourly Rate of Pay: $18.00 (Based on education and/or years of relevant work experience reflected on the application).

Effective July 1, 2025, candidates now meet the minimum qualifications of a position if they have the minimum education and experience listed from the class specification. The Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities listed within this vacancy announcement will be used only as management preferences and will be used to screen for the most qualified pool of applicants.

This position will perform as needed in the area of grounds maintenance and upkeep.

Key Responsibilities
  • Mowing grass with both push and riding mowers.
  • Use a variety of gasoline powered equipment, such as string trimmers, concrete edgers, blowers, tractors, and electric carts.
  • Help maintain plant beds, set out flowers, trees and bushes.
  • Remove limbs and other debris daily.
  • Rake and/or mulch leaves during the fall months and will help with snow removal in adverse weather.
  • Maintain all storm water catch basins to prevent flooding.
  • Pick up trash and litter on the grounds and empty the outside trash cans daily.
  • Will assist in maintaining, cleaning and repairing all grounds equipment and facility vehicles.
  • This position assists in vehicle monthly and daily inspections, minor maintenance, and transports vehicles off site for service.
  • This position also assists in fueling all vehicles when needed.
  • Performs other miscellaneous repair and maintenance duties and general duties as assigned by the Director of Plant Operations and/or Direct Supervisor.
