Position Overview

We are seeking an experienced General Superintendent to lead field operations for mechanical, electrical and plumbing (MEP) construction projects with an emphasis on commercial and healthcare environments. The General Superintendent will be accountable for on-site execution, safety, quality, schedule and labor coordination across multiple MEP trades including HVAC, piping and plumbing. This role requires strong leadership in complex hospital and healthcare projects, knowledge of medical gas systems, prefabrication workflows, and proficiency with scheduling tools (Primavera P6). The ideal candidate will drive productive subcontractor performance, control costs through accurate takeoffs and installation oversight, and maintain strict OSHA and healthcare safety compliance.

Key Responsibilities

• Lead day-to-day field management for multiple MEP construction projects, ensuring adherence to project plans, specifications, budgets and schedules.
• Coordinate and supervise installation of HVAC, mechanical piping, plumbing and MEP systems, including medical gas infrastructure, ensuring quality and code compliance.
• Develop, manage and maintain project schedules using Primavera P6; proactively identify and mitigate schedule risks and bottlenecks.
• Direct prefabrication and modularization efforts to improve installation efficiency, reduce field labor and limit on-site disruption.
• Oversee subcontractor performance and labor coordination, assigning crews, sequencing work and resolving field conflicts to meet milestones.
• Implement and enforce rigorous safety programs in accordance with OSHA and healthcare facility requirements, including infection control risk assessments and site-specific safety plans.
• Perform constructability reviews and lead coordination meetings with general contractors, engineers, and project stakeholders to resolve design and installation issues.
• Drive cost control through accurate takeoffs, install planning, productivity tracking and timely change order documentation.
• Ensure all inspections, testing and commissioning activities are completed and documented, including medical gas certification and system start-up procedures.
• Mentor and develop field supervisors and foremen, promoting best practices in installation quality, safety and productivity.

Qualifications

• Minimum 10+ years of progressive field experience in MEP construction with at least 5 years in a superintendent or general superintendent role.
• Demonstrated experience on commercial and healthcare (hospital/medical) projects, including knowledge of medical gas systems and healthcare facility safety protocols.
• Strong technical knowledge of HVAC, mechanical systems, piping and plumbing installations.
• Proficiency with scheduling and planning tools, specifically Primavera P6 (scheduling, baseline management, progress updates).
• Proven experience with prefabrication/modular construction techniques and leading coordination between shop and field.
• Solid understanding of OSHA regulations, site safety management and ability to develop and enforce safety plans.
• Experience preparing and reviewing takeoffs, cost impact analyses and supporting change order documentation.
• Excellent leadership, communication and conflict resolution skills; ability to coordinate multiple trades and subcontractors.
• Ability to read and interpret construction drawings, specifications and contract documents.
• Relevant certifications preferred: OSHA 30, Certified Medical Gas Installer/Tester, NICET, or equivalent; construction management or technical degree is a plus.
