Job summary

Scott Humphrey Corporation seeks an experienced MEP General Superintendent to lead mechanical, electrical, plumbing, and related systems across large-scale data center projects nationwide. You will oversee field operations from planning through energization, commissioning, and turnover.

The ideal candidate has 10+ years in commercial/industrial construction with significant MEP leadership and data center experience, plus the ability to travel extensively to project sites.

Qualifications

  • 10+ years of commercial/industrial construction with significant MEP leadership.
  • Experience as MEP General Superintendent or similar field lead.
  • Data center or mission critical construction experience strongly preferred.
  • Experience managing large, technically complex projects with substantial electrical and mechanical scopes.
  • Strong knowledge of mission critical power distribution, UPS, switchgear, cooling, controls, life-safety, and commissioning.
  • Willingness to travel extensively based on project assignments.

Responsibilities

  • Lead all field execution involving mechanical, electrical, plumbing, fire protection, controls, and mission critical systems.
  • Coordinate MEP contractors, equipment vendors, commissioning teams, design partners, and general construction personnel.
  • Develop installation sequencing, staffing plans, milestone schedules, and short-interval production plans.
  • Partner with project leadership to ensure MEP activities align with the master schedule, budget, safety program, and quality requirements.
  • Review drawings, specifications, submittals, coordination models, and sequence-of-operations documents for constructability.
  • Lead MEP coordination meetings and resolve design conflicts and trade interface issues.
  • Monitor procurement, fabrication, delivery, installation, startup, commissioning, and testing of long-lead equipment.
  • Oversee electrical distribution, emergency power, UPS systems, generators, switchgear, cooling systems, controls, and other critical infrastructure.
  • Manage energization, lockout/tagout, startup, commissioning, and turnovers.
  • Coordinate shutdowns, tie-ins, temporary utilities, and work near energized environments.
  • Enforce project safety standards and ensure subcontractors comply with site procedures.
  • Establish quality-control expectations and verify installations comply with plans and submittals.
  • Track trade productivity, manpower, constraints, schedule performance, and milestone completion.
  • Maintain field documentation and deficiency lists.
  • Lead punch-list completion, systems documentation, owner training, and turnover.
  • Mentor and develop MEP superintendents and field teams.
  • Maintain clear communication with clients and project stakeholders.

A nationally recognized design-build general contractor is seeking an experienced MEP General Superintendent to lead mechanical, electrical, plumbing, fire protection, controls, and commissioning activities on large-scale data center projects throughout the United States.

This individual will oversee complex MEP field operations from early planning and equipment procurement through installation, energization, commissioning, and final turnover.

Key Responsibilities
  • Lead all field execution involving mechanical, electrical, plumbing, fire protection, controls, and mission critical systems.
  • Coordinate MEP contractors, equipment vendors, commissioning teams, design partners, and general construction personnel.
  • Develop installation sequencing, staffing plans, milestone schedules, and short-interval production plans.
  • Partner with project leadership to ensure MEP activities align with the master schedule, budget, safety program, and quality requirements.
  • Review drawings, specifications, submittals, coordination models, and sequence-of-operations documents for constructability.
  • Lead MEP coordination meetings and resolve design conflicts, installation constraints, and trade interface issues.
  • Monitor procurement, fabrication, delivery, installation, startup, and testing of long-lead equipment.
  • Oversee electrical distribution, emergency power, UPS systems, generators, switchgear, cooling systems, controls, and other critical infrastructure.
  • Manage energization, lockout/tagout, startup, commissioning, integrated systems testing, and turnover activities.
  • Coordinate shutdowns, tie-ins, temporary utilities, and work within or adjacent to energized environments.
  • Enforce project safety standards and ensure subcontractors comply with site-specific procedures.
  • Establish quality-control expectations and verify installations comply with plans, specifications, and approved submittals.
  • Track trade productivity, manpower, constraints, schedule performance, and milestone completion.
  • Maintain accurate field documentation, including daily reports, progress updates, inspections, testing records, and deficiency lists.
  • Lead punch-list completion, systems documentation, owner training, and final turnover.
  • Mentor and develop MEP superintendents, assistant superintendents, field engineers, and trade partners.
  • Maintain clear communication with clients, project executives, operations teams, and other project stakeholders.
Qualifications
  • 10+ years of commercial or industrial construction experience, including significant MEP field leadership.
  • Previous experience as an MEP General Superintendent, MEP Superintendent, General Superintendent, or comparable field leader.
  • Data center or mission critical construction experience strongly preferred.
  • Experience managing large, technically complex projects with substantial electrical and mechanical scopes.
  • Strong knowledge of mission critical power distribution, backup generation, UPS systems, switchgear, cooling systems, controls, life-safety systems, and commissioning.
  • Experience coordinating energization and managing rigorous electrical safety and lockout/tagout programs.
  • Working knowledge of BIM/VDC coordination, construction scheduling, quality control, and commissioning processes.
  • Proven ability to lead multiple subcontractors and large field teams in a fast-paced environment.
  • Strong planning, leadership, communication, conflict-resolution, and problem-solving skills.
  • Thorough understanding of construction safety requirements and industry best practices.
  • Willingness to travel extensively based on project assignments.
Ideal Background

The strongest candidates will have led MEP field execution on hyperscale or colocation data centers from underground and core infrastructure through equipment setting, energization, commissioning, and turnover. Experience with advanced manufacturing, semiconductor, pharmaceutical, or other technically complex facilities may also be considered.
