Job summary

Academia.edu seeks a General Manager of SEO/GEO in San Francisco to own the strategy, execution, and outcomes across traditional search and AI-driven discovery. You will report to the CEO and lead a small team of engineers.

You will drive end-to-end SEO/GEO initiatives, transform how 64 million papers are found today and by AI agents tomorrow, and push for measurable, data-driven outcomes.

Qualifications

• 5+ years of hands-on SEO experience in competitive environments.
• Strong technical understanding of SEO architecture, crawling, indexing and ranking.
• Working command of GEO architecture and AI-assisted search behavior.
• Proactive, ownership-driven with ability to lead the team and write specs.

Responsibilities

• Own SEO and GEO end-to-end, from architecture to citation for AI models.
• Drive measurable results with clear baselines and documented outcomes.
• Design and run experiments, leveraging AI tools to gain advantages.
• Lead a small engineering/design team and set strategic direction.
