Job description

Insightful Talent is partnered with their client, a full-service marina, in Fort Lauderdale to hire a General Manager.

About Our Client:

Our client is a full-service marine complex located in Fort Lauderdale. The asset encompasses multi-discipline yard operations for transient and long-term superyacht berthing for vessels from 40' to 200'+, high-capacity fuel, and extensive waterfront real estate.

The General Manager will hold complete operational, commercial, and financial accountability for the marina.

You will be primarily responsible for 4 key areas:

  • The operating discipline of the team across dissimilar departments (yard production, guest services, contractor compliance, and facilities)
  • The durability and growth of relationships with captains, and owners' representatives
  • The health and productivity of the contractor and tenant ecosystem that drives ancillary revenue and service breadth

Marine industry experience — particularly in boatyard, shipyard, or full-service marine operations — is strongly preferred for this role given the operational complexity of the organization.

What you’ll be doing:

Financial Ownership and P&L Leadership

  • Full P&L Responsibilities
  • Budgeting and reforecasting
  • Monthly Financials Review
  • Drive revenue management
  • Grow ancillary and new revenue
  • Control cost structure

Operating Efficiency and Process Improvement

  • Work with operations leadership to establish and enforce standard operating procedures across departments.
  • Manage the business through data reporting
  • Modernize systems and technology

Superyacht, Captain, Owner and Tenant Relations

  • Serve as the property's senior host and representative.
  • Manage sophisticated stakeholders with discretion
  • Own escalations
  • Manage commercial tenants and third parties
  • Represent the organization externally
  • Support sales and marketing

Leadership and Team Development

  • Lead leaders. Build, coach, and hold accountable a multi-layered management team.
  • Own talent strategy for the site. Partner with Human Resources.
  • Set performance expectations for the leadership team Establish clear goals and metrics
  • Build the culture. Create an environment where teammates are respected, developed, and expected to deliver — and where exceptional service is the standard rather than the exception.
  • Lead through change. Guide the team through acquisitions, integrations, renovations, systems conversions, and seasonal surge.

Asset, Facilities and Capital Project Management

  • Protect and enhance the physical assets
  • Support capital projects
  • Support permitting and entitlements
  • Own storm and business continuity planning
  • Manage inventory and procurement

Safety, Compliance and Risk Management

  • Establish a visible safety culture in which every teammate is expected to work safely and to stop unsafe work.
  • Ensure compliance with all applicable federal, state, and local requirements, including OSHA, EPA, USCG, ISPS, Clean Marina, SPCC and fuel handling, ADA, and Department of Labor regulations.
  • Follow all Safety and Environmental rules, complete all required training, wear proper personal protective equipment, and report all accidents, injuries, spills, and near misses immediately.

What you need to bring:

  • 10+ years of progressive leadership experience, including 5+ years with direct P&L ownership of a multi-department operation, property, or business of meaningful scale. Experience managing through directors or department managers — not just individual contributors — is required.
  • Demonstrated experience leading a management team of leaders and a total organization of 50+ people.
  • Track record of delivering financial results against plan and of implementing operating improvements with quantifiable outcomes.
  • Experience serving a high-net-worth, member, or premium clientele, and operating in environments where service failures are highly visible.
  • Experience managing capital projects, physical assets, or facilities of significant value and complexity. Experience managing a contractor, vendor, or tenant ecosystem with compliance, insurance, and relationship management requirements. Boatyard, shipyard, or marine services experience — particularly in haul-out operations, service production management, or superyacht refit coordination — is a strong differentiator for this role.
  • Bachelor's degree in Business, Hospitality Management, Finance, Real Estate, Engineering, or a related field required; MBA or equivalent advanced degree preferred.
  • Valid driver's license required.
  • Advanced proficiency in Microsoft Excel, including modeling and analysis
  • Working knowledge of marina, property, or hospitality management platforms, work order and CMMS systems, point-of-sale, and business intelligence or reporting tools.
  • Familiarity with accounts payable and receivable, payroll and salary administration, procurement, contract administration, and lease or slip agreement structures.
