Job summary

Smithfield Foods is seeking a General Accounting Manager to lead accounting activities, ensure internal controls, and support audits and strategic initiatives. You will oversee the general ledger, month-end close, and work with co-sourced accounting partners.

The role partners with business leaders for budgeting guidance, financial analysis, and decision support while driving process improvements through technology and governance practices.

Qualifications

• Thorough knowledge of accounting principles and financial reporting.
• Strong understanding of GAAP and internal controls.
• Experience with month-end close and financial analysis.

Responsibilities

• Ensure Accounting Compliance & Internal Controls: Perform accounting activities in accordance with GAAP, SOX 404, and company policies.
• Manage General Ledger Accounting: Prepare and review journal entries, reconciliations, analyses, and supporting docs.
• Lead Month-End Close & Financial Accuracy: Coordinate month-end close, implement controls, ensure timely results.
• Oversee Co-Sourced Accounting Operations: Review activities by IBM, ensure policy compliance and quality deliverables.
• Provide Financial Analysis & Reporting: Prepare SG&A analyses, variances, and management commentary.
• Partner with Business Leaders: Serve as accounting liaison, provide budgeting guidance and coding direction.
• Support Budgeting, Forecasting & Decision-Making: Assist SG&A planning and financial insights.
• Support Audits, Tax & Financial Reporting: Respond to audit, tax, and reporting requests.
• Drive Process Improvement & Technology Enablement: Implement automation and AI for efficiency.
• Lead Systems, Projects & Master Data Governance: Support acquisitions and system implementations; SME for SAP RTR data.
• Collaborate Across Functions & Resolve Complex Issues: Work with Finance and stakeholders to resolve issues.
• Leadership: Drive positive employee experience through development and coaching.
