Job summary

Mount Hood Community College is seeking a program coordinator to support retention and success for students from diverse backgrounds. The role focuses on creating safe spaces, developing identity-based programming, and fostering belonging across the MHCC community.

The incumbent will partner with faculty and campus services to deliver student-centered initiatives, coordinate mentorship, and build external partnerships to address needs such as childcare and transportation.

Qualifications

• Associate degree required; progress toward or completion of a bachelor's degree preferred.
• Two years of experience in a student service environment coordinating programs for a diverse student population.
• Demonstrated experience serving students from diverse backgrounds.
• Bilingual oral and written skills with fluency in Spanish and English (or other community language).

Responsibilities

• Coordinate design, delivery, and evaluation of gender equity and student belonging programming.
• Triage student needs and connect to college services and referrals.
• Coordinate outreach, recruitment, orientation, and enrollment into the program.
• Partner with faculty to align courses with program outcomes and retention strategies.
• Create peer-mentorship initiatives and recruit/train/evaluate mentors.
• Collaborate with associated College services to design campus-wide events and campaigns.
• Establish and maintain partnerships for resources such as childcare, transportation, and community connections.

Job Summary

Coordinates, advocates, mentors, and directly supports students and promotes initiatives that support the retention and success of students from diverse backgrounds. Creates safe spaces for students from various socio-economic, non-traditional, and gender identifying backgrounds, and fosters a deeper understanding and appreciation of diversity, equity, and a sense of belonging within the community. Establishes, implements, and assesses student-centered programs and services that fill unmet student needs, targeting support to those who may benefit from identity-based community building and structured success strategies.

Essential Duties

1. Coordinates the design, delivery, and evaluation of the gender equity and student belonging programming with a focus on coalition building, identity, belonging, retention, and concerns of the students. Creates programs and events that enrich the academic experience, promote identity exploration, and enhance mentorship skills of students. Provides assessment and reporting of the effectiveness of the program and services on student academic progress, persistence, and success.
2. Triages student needs and reviews college programs and services for available supports and referrals. Connects students to the broader services and resources as needed.
3. Coordinates the outreach, recruitment, orientation, and enrollment of students into the program.
4. Partners with program faculty to align courses with program outcomes to inform and pursue relevant out-of-class activities, learning experiences, and retention strategies.
5. Creates peer-mentorship initiatives and recruits, hires, trains, and evaluates peer mentors within the program. Coaches and assists mentors in setting goals, and provides guidance to help them achieve their educational and personal success.
6. Collaborates with affiliated services, and programs at the College to design and implement events, activities, and/or campus-wide campaigns that support the needs of students and individuals within the MHCC community.
7. Establishes and maintains relevant internal and external partnerships for resources and services that meet the needs of students such as childcare services, transportation information, clothing donations, crisis intervention, academic learning supports, professional networking opportunities, and connections to community organizations.

Additional Duties

1. Performs all other duties as assigned.
2. Assist with recruitment efforts.

Minimum Qualifications

• Associate degree.
• Two (2) years of experience in student service-oriented environment coordinating student program or support services designed to address the struggles, triumphs, and realities for a diverse student population.
• Demonstrated experience serving students across a diverse spectrum of backgrounds.
• Bilingual oral and written skills with fluency Spanish and in English or other language that meets community needs.

Equivalent combinations of education and experience may be considered.

Preferred Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree in student development, psychology, social work, social science, counseling or related field.

Working Conditions

This is an onsite position. Work is typically performed in a normal office environment working with a variety of people. Work environment is often noisy and crowded with students and staff. Occasional strain to the eyes while working with a computer terminal. Occasional evening or weekend hours to accommodate special activities or events related to the position. Expect disruptions in work flow.

Salary Placement

Initial salary placement will be within the posted range or pay rate of the position, and is based on applicable education and/or years of relevant full-time equivalent experience at the sole discretion of the College and in accordance with all applicable state and federal laws.
