Job description

The Human Resources Technical Assistant is an entry-level professional who provides administrative and operational support across a broad range of human resources functions. Operating under general supervision, this role supports the delivery of HR services by maintaining accuracy, safeguarding confidentiality, and ensuring compliance with College policies, collective bargaining agreements, and applicable employment laws. This position does not require specialized knowledge at the time of hire, as the necessary skills and knowledge can be acquired through training and on-the-job experience.

This position plays an active role in the recruitment and hiring process, partnering with members of the recruitment team to support talent acquisition initiatives. Responsibilities include assisting with job postings, coordinating candidate communications and interviews, preparing hiring documentation, maintaining recruitment records, and providing a positive candidate experience throughout the hiring process.

In addition to recruitment-related responsibilities, the Human Resources Professional supports day-to-day HR operations by responding to employee inquiries, maintaining personnel records, preparing employment-related documentation, and assisting with onboarding and other HR programs and initiatives. The incumbent collaborates with HR team members and campus departments to ensure efficient and effective delivery of human resources services while maintaining a high level of customer service and professionalism.

Examples of Duties & Responsibilities:

  • Serve as one of the primary points of contact for the Human Resources Office by monitoring the HR inbox, answering incoming phone calls, and assisting employees, applicants, supervisors, hiring managers, and campus departments with a wide range of HR-related questions.
  • Provide front-line customer service for walk-in visitors, directing individuals to the appropriate resources while maintaining confidentiality and professionalism.
  • Complete new hire employment requirements, including I-9 verification, collecting direct deposit forms, and distributing retirement enrollment materials.
  • Review and prioritize daily requests related to hiring, onboarding, payroll, benefits, compensation, and personnel actions to ensure deadlines are met and issues are resolved promptly.
  • Process hiring actions and guide candidates through each stage of the recruitment and onboarding process.
  • Manage applicant activity in the department's recruitment system, including maintaining applicant statuses, monitoring approximately 30 active part-time searches, and following up with departments to keep searches moving.
  • Assist departments with creating, updating, and closing job postings and review position information for compliance with HR procedures.
  • Provide guidance to hiring managers and search committees throughout the recruitment process, including interview scheduling, candidate communication, required documentation, and next steps.
  • Coordinate scheduling for first-round interviews for full-time positions at any given time while managing competing priorities and hiring timelines.

Requirements:

Required Qualifications:

  • Associate's degree in Business Administration or higher in a related public safety field, or an Associate's degree in progress with an expected completion date by the end of 2027.
  • Demonstrated ability to manage tasks requiring close attention to detail.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Bilingual and able to read, write, and speak Spanish, or other languages, proficiently
Additional Information:

Salary: Salary is determined based on experience, internal equity, and college budget. This position has a range of $43,000to $53,000and is based on these factors.

MCC offers a Flexible Work Policy for benefit-eligible employees. Types of flexible work arrangements include flextime/staggered shifts, remote work/telecommuting, and compressed work schedule. This position involves primarily sedentary work, including prolonged periods of computer use and keyboarding. The role requires the ability to communicate effectively in verbal and written form. The position may involve occasionally lifting or moving items up to 10 pounds. Work is performed in a typical office environment with no adverse conditions. Occasional travel between campus buildings or to other local or out-of-town locations for meetings or conferences may be required.

Prohibition of Remote Work Outside New York State: Remote work locations outside New York State are not authorized by the College due to out-of-state tax and regulatory implications. In limited circumstances, prompted by business or operational needs, the College may approve requests to work remotely outside of New York State, on a short-term, temporary basis.
