Job summary

Housing Alliance HTX in Houston is seeking a YouthBuild GED & Penn Foster Instructor to provide high-quality academic instruction, educational coaching, and support to YouthBuild participants pursuing GED and Penn Foster coursework.

You will develop lesson plans, deliver GED content, monitor progress, and collaborate with case managers and community partners to help students reach educational and career goals, including transitions to post-secondary opportunities.

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s Degree in Education, Adult Education, Human Services, or a related field.
• Minimum of two years of teaching, tutoring, or educational support experience.
• Experience teaching GED preparation, adult education, or workforce development programs.
• Experience with online learning platforms and educational technology.
• Strong classroom management and student engagement skills.
• Excellent written, verbal, and interpersonal communication skills.

Responsibilities

• Deliver GED preparation instruction in Reading, Language Arts, Mathematics, Science, and Social Studies.
• Facilitate Penn Foster online coursework and completion requirements.
• Develop lesson plans, activities, assessments, and materials aligned with GED and Penn Foster curriculum requirements.
• Provide differentiated instruction for diverse learning styles and educational backgrounds.
• Administer academic assessments and utilize data to guide instructional strategies.
• Conduct individual and small-group tutoring sessions to improve student performance.
• Monitor student attendance, participation, academic progress, and credential attainment.
• Coordinate with YouthBuild staff regarding participant attendance, barriers, and academic performance.
• Participate in participant recruitment, enrollment, orientation, and Momentum Week activities.
• Assist with educational testing, TABE assessments, and educational evaluations.
• Support participants transitioning into post-secondary education, apprenticeships, employment, or advanced training opportunities.
• Participate in program meetings, case conferences, staff development, and training activities.
