Job summary

NiSource Inc. is seeking an entry-level Operations Field/Service Technician in Coshocton, OH. The role includes progression to Field/Service Technician 2 after two years with required training and Operator Qualifications (OQs).

The position covers installation, repair and maintenance of distribution facilities and equipment, serving residential and commercial customers with on-site field work in all weather conditions.

Qualifications

• Must have high school diploma or equivalent.
• Mechanical aptitude and ability to use hand tools for field repair.
• Basic math skills and ability to read/understand gauges and dials.
• Ability to work effectively in a team and follow instructions.
• Detail-oriented with ability to complete records with minimal supervision.
• Must be certified to wear SCBA.
• DOT AMPP regulations compliance.
• Able to respond to emergencies and work overtime.
• Pass pre-employment assessments and background checks.
• Willingness to live within required area and work in all weather conditions.
• Knowledge of OSHA regulations for pipeline safety.

Responsibilities

• Install, repair and replace distribution facilities for main lines and services.
• Operate light earth-moving equipment such as backhoe and tamper.
• Maintain equipment with cleaning, greasing and lubrication.
• Install/remove gas meters, settings and regulators; test service lines for leaks.
• Use test instruments to install, service, and adjust gas appliances.
• Advise plumbers, contractors, and customers on installations.
• Turn gas on/off for customers.
• Read meters, collect delinquent bills, locate curb boxes.
• Use pressure gauges and detectors to locate leaks.
