Job summary

WSB is seeking a Gas Trouble LocateTechnician to support field utility locating operations in Austin, TX. The role emphasizes safety, accuracy, and timely response to locate requests while marking gas and other utilities.

The position requires reading maps and plans, operating locating equipment, and documenting field data. A high school diploma and driving license are required, with 1–4 years of locating experience preferred.

Qualifications

• High school diploma or equivalent.
• 1–4+ years of utility locating experience preferred.
• Knowledge of PE and Steel Gas lines and components.
• Valid driver’s license with a clean driving record.
• Ability to pass Operator Qualification modules and other required training.
• Knowledge of local 811 processes, locate laws, and utility marking requirements preferred.
• Ability to read and interpret utility maps, prints, construction plans, and as-built documentation.
• Experience with ticket management systems preferred.

Responsibilities

• Perform utility locating duties with emphasis on safety, accuracy, and compliance.
• Locate and mark underground utilities, including gas, using APWA color standards.
• Read maps, prints, and construction plans to identify utility size, type, and location.
• Operate electronic locating equipment and field tools to identify underground facilities.
• Troubleshoot difficult or unlocatable facilities using approved methods.
• Document findings and communicate with clients, internal teams, and third-party contractors.
• Complete daily reports and required records electronically using an iPad or similar device.
• Maintain compliance with federal, state, local, client, and company requirements.
