Job summary

Shelby (NC) is seeking a Natural Gas Technician I to assist in repairing, replacing and installing gas lines and related appurtenances. You will help locate mains, perform leak surveys, and assist with meter service connections, valves and hazardous crossings, while maintaining safety and regulatory compliance.

The role requires a high school diploma or GED, with Operator Qualification within two years and NC CDL within two years. On-site field work and occasional after-hours duties apply.

Qualifications

• High school diploma or GED required.
• Complete Operator Qualification as Natural Gas Technician I within 2 years of hire.
• Complete excavation, trenching and shoring, and flagging training within 1 year of hire.
• Valid commercial driver's license in North Carolina or ability to obtain within 2 years.

Responsibilities

• Assist in repair, replacement and installation of gas lines, meters, outlets, regulators and related facilities; locate mains and services.
• Fit taps and fuses pipe; assist with pipe welding; repair damaged coatings.
• Assist with leak investigations, leak surveys and patrolling pipelines.
• Assist with pressure checks and downloading pressure recordings; monitor interruptible consumption as required.
• Record atmospheric corrosion data; assist testing odorant levels per federal regulations.
• Assist with valve inspection and repair; inspect hazardous pipe crossings.
• Connect/disconnect gas service to meter/regulator; ensure meters are free of corrosion and properly set; light pilots.
• Take soil potential readings; operate light equipment as qualified.
• Maintain rights-of-way, regulator and farm tap stations; mow, trim trees, remove debris.
• Assist with abandonment of services and mains; install anode beds and test stations.
• Dig trenches by hand or machine; prime and coat service risers; paint meters per regs.
• Stock trucks with materials and supplies; load/unload; perform minor tool/equipment repairs.
• May work outside normal hours in standby, on-call or emergency situations.
