Job summary

MidAmerican Energy Company in the Midwest seeks a Gas Operations Controller to manage the delivery of natural gas, balance supply and demand, and direct field operations under a 24x7 rotating shift schedule.

Responsibilities include dispatching transmission lines, responding to alarms with MEC/pipeline teams, optimizing the supply mix, and overseeing emergency shutdowns to maintain system integrity and safety.

Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree in business, engineering or technical field (or six years of progressive work experience in lieu).
• Two years relevant work experience.
• Excellent analytical and problem solving skills to recognize patterns in data and to make recommendations.
• Ability to support company's position with pipelines, suppliers and customers.
• Advanced critical thinking with the ability to manage multiple tasks.
• Flexibility to perform a wide range of tasks and adapt to changing priorities.
• Must become an OQ qualified and trained gas controller.
• Effective oral and written communication skills.
• Skills to use software packages for creating and maintaining spreadsheets/databases.

Responsibilities

• Control, dispatch and monitor operation of all transmission lines, distribution points and remotely controlled gas systems.
• Call out and work with field personnel to respond to and clear alarms.
• Manage remotely controlled pressure and flow points to maintain system integrity with economical supply mix.
• Direct activities of crews during emergencies and planned shutdowns of feeder lines or remotely controlled systems.
• Coordinate construction and maintenance work with field personnel as possible.
• Investigate alarm issues and prepare control room management reports and reviews.
• Coordinate daily supply purchasing on nights, weekends and holidays.
• Ensure adequate pressure and flow; direct peak shaving plants.
• Complete nominations, confirmations and accounting of system supply gas transported on interstate pipelines.
• Call out personnel and direct regulator adjustments on feeder systems or pipeline tap stations.
• Perform additional responsibilities as assigned.
• Demonstrate knowledge of human performance improvement techniques and implement related processes.
