Job summary

Southern Company Gas is seeking a field technician to record gas consumption data across residential, commercial, and industrial customers using electronic remote reading devices. You will install and program ERTs, troubleshoot issues, and ensure data accuracy while following safety protocols in varied weather and terrain.

The role requires a high school diploma or GED, mechanical aptitude, and a valid driver’s license.

Qualifications

Responsibilities

• Downloads meter reading routes daily and enters data into electronic units.
• Maintains and updates handhelds and Mobile Collectors.
• Troubleshoots ERTs and performs reprogramming/repairs.
• Operates and maintains tools and equipment per safety guidelines.
• Investigates high bill complaints and stops meters as needed.
• Performs regular meter inspections and painting.
• Ensures vehicle is stocked with necessary equipment.
• Interacts with customers by phone to gather information.
